Ironically, I don't think they hit that well.
Both Williams and Franco blew ABs that could have led to big innings, Williams striking out on high FBs, Franco overstriding and popping up with the bases loaded.
But both redeemed themselves, Williams stop chasing high fastballs and had a big day, Franco stayed within himself and hit the ball hard all day.
Pivetta has a good FB, but he lost velocity after 60-70 innings and was down to 93.
I think this reflected his curve not working early, so he was overthrowing.
Like I've said, he really needed that year in AAA to work on his curve and changeup.
One reason the Phillies have looked bad is too many kids learning on the job.
Pinto and Garcia have really good stuff out of the pen, throw in Neris, Morgan learning to rely on his slider and use a 95 MPH FB as a change of pace, and when they trade Neshek, Therrien and Rios coming up, they'll have a nice stable of arms to build upon.
Since May, this has actually been a decent team, losing a lot of close games but you can see the future, a young starting staff, a bullpen full of hard throws, a solid lineup even before any more kids come up.
Williams is impressing me not with his stats (SSS), but his efforts to adjust within and between games. If he can make the same adjustments as Altherr, we can have quite an OF before any more of our prospects arrive. With Franco coming around, that's a solid IF, and Knapp keeps improving as a hitter.
They're building a nice base, this will be one of the youngest teams in baseball next year.
