It's a long season. We were up, now we're down. I won't bet how this season ends, but I do think this is a bad year to go all in for the now at the expense of the future. The starting rotation is very good, but the relievers and position players seem not up to par. Spend prospects to win now and I fear this season becomes 2012 and the prolonged dark night follows.
I remain concerned with the organization's inability to produce plus position players and the way that the bright lights quickly fizzle (Kingery, Stott, and Bohm). Is it our hitting coaches? Marsh is having a bad year after giving us 3-1/3 seasons of +3 rWar/season -- not a flash in the pan. If he isn't struggling with an injury, he shouldn't be collapsing at his age.
Our offense is basically purchased with very rich high$/long contract FA signings. Not a sustainable path. Despite devoting so many of our development $ to position players, the results have been very meagre at best. The scouting/development/MLB coaching side for position players still needs a lot of improvement.
Again, more bonus $ to the areas in which we are actually able to accurately assess, sign, and develop prospects.
