Nola has hit injury woes this season. It is really the first time, at least in years. Apart from the 60-game 2020 season, he has pitched at least 180 IP in the last 6 seasons prior to 2025. As far as we know, this isn't an injury which will require surgery and he will pitch for us again this season and in the playoffs. He has been a horse, along with Wheeler, in the starting rotation, and he has logged 35 rWAR for us. I don't see the logic in getting rid of him. The Phillies pen has been saved most years by the number of innings logged by our starters with Nola and Wheeler leading the way. To trade him now is certainly to sell way low. High odds that with the down time he returns strong for the rest of the season. Whether or not his contract is too long is a risk to which the answer isn't knowable today.
Ranger has had injuries, but has put up at least 2.3 rWAR each of the last 5 seasons, including already reaching that mark this seasons. In his 3 full seasons as a starting pitcher, he has 155, 125, and 150 IP -- not ideal, but not horrendous or always injured, either. A lot of starting pitchers don't put up more than 150 IP per season and almost none exceed 200. That's a change in how baseball is played today.
