The cupboard is bare (i.e. our bench) with our right handed starting lineup in there tonight. You don’t want to pinch hit a lefty against Hader.

Well, I can think of one guy but he wasn't an option.

Ricky thought Thomson was right stick with Ranger vs. the Bullpen but I think that's thinking from his playing (and Larry Bowa's managing) days. Valdez no slouch of course but it's on the offense more. Ricky did say Valdez has reverse splits which is interesting, but most analytic-minded front offices dismiss that, especially in smaller samples. As should be obvious by these line-ups, Thomson doesn't make these on a whim.

While the news seems more positive about Harper (went through a “full routine” today), I doubt that we see him activated on this road trip. I guess you never know. Just seems like they want to make sure he’s fully ready when he returns, and don’t want to risk allowing this wrist injury to linger the rest of the season.

Not much of a choice for the manager. Kennedy is not that good, but we had nothing better. Wonder if they think of playing Stott a bit more against LHP and moving Sosa out to LF. Not sure that is better though it would be nice if we had confidence in one of our second tier lefties to hit RHP a bit better.

No, it doesn't sound like he'll play in Houston but probably back home. Just remembering how we made it to the World Series with Hader still sitting there in the bullpen while they let Suarez face Harper (and then our own Suarez finished the game).

We lost to Cooper Hummel against one of our ace starters, Kennedy could have just as easily done that. We already saw the RHB line-up work great the other night. But if the other team has a LH closer behind a LH starter who goes 7 scoreless then you end up leaving a bunch of guys on the bench. The Astros blew up the Phillies' script and then could follow their own. In hindsight they should have let a LHB or two have at Abreu.
