You won't hear any rationalization from me. This is 3 games lost that can be directly attributed to Turner's fielding. Through May.

But we can't do this mid season, lol. Does that mean a mid season switch would cost us MORE than 8 to 9 games in the loss column????

This is laughable. It's not even just the outright errors. I can't tell you the amount of times he's dove and had it deflect off his glove. Then the one time in twenty he makes that play, the announcers act like he's a gold glove. Not a standard play, but you see above average fielders make that play 4 to 5 times as much as Turner does.

I am certain the most likely outcome from a Phillies' pinch hitter is a strikeout. Not that pinch hitting doesn't make sense.

I don't think anyone really defends Turner, it is just not clear if Stott is better, or if the team is better if Sosa is SS and Trea is somewhere else. Plus Stott is a really good 2B. And the last four games aside (without Harper) the team had the best record in baseball, there are flaws and warts all over but the team overall is good. There are more immediate things to fix in this season. And visible awful errors are not the sole measure of defensive play

The Dodgers have needed a reliable SS forever. They traded to get Turner to fill that position. After having him for a while they saw that he was not the answer and let him walk as a FA.
Turner thinks that he is a major league SS but his play shows otherwise. Today was just another page in his book of substandard play at that key position. It may crush his ego but he needs to be moved to the OF and let Sosa play SS if only for the improved defense.
In fairness the poor defense goes beyond Turner. Amateurs can be found that play better defense in left field than Wilson. We all know that Castellanos is challenged in RF but his bat sort of balance out his total play. There are other positions that have deficiencies as well.
It may well be be that if some players are repositioned that the line up could be greatly improved. If so, it’s time to do that even if it means that some toes need to be stepped on.

The biggest problem is the bullpen, with Alvarado out and Kerkering and Strahm pitching subpar, what was thought to be a strength has become a black hole.
Second problem is this is an old team and its younger players haven't stepped up and picked up the slack. Stott, Bohm, Marsh.

At the present time, and especially in this game, the biggest problem is the position players -- both hitting and fielding.

Fielding is not going to get better, but this offensive slump kind of started when Bryce got hurt. Getting him back makes the whole lineup better as pitchers have to throw tougher pitches to Bryce and might have less in the tank for the end of the lineup.

Sounds like Bryce could have played today and Monday looks at least 50-50 (and the weekend results might tip it in favor of him playing).

Fielding could get better by getting Turner into the OF and putting Sosa at SS. It would mean sitting Kepler but right now, that wouldn’t be loss. The shot of Suarez in the dugout after the runs came in following the flubs by Wilson and Turner said it all. Ranger was not a happy camper.

I doubt that would produce a better defense and it would be malpractice to do something like that in the middle of the season. Plus, Sosa's offense in that role would be worse than Kepler. It would just be a disaster all around. Turner is average on defense (-0.1 dWAR). On that metric Harper, Stott, and Bohm in the infield are all worse this year.

In the future yes, I do think moving Turner to the OF might be a good move and one dictated by having potentially 2 good infielders coming up (Miller and Escobar) and major holes in that OF that Crawford alone cannot solve even if he makes it. That is a Spring Training move though. Turner is just fine at SS this year and maybe next year too.

A club goes through the winter and ST to get prepared for the season. At Memorial Day it checks to see if it works. If not it has until the TDL to make adjustments. Then the ride to the end of the season begins.
It’s time for DD to assess where things are and where it will go from here. The flaws on this bunch are obvious. Unless major changes are made they won’t make the playoffs. I wouldn’t want to face John Middleton if that happens. He’s paying people a lot of money to win. Where they play is secondary to that. As Al Davis once said, “Just win, baby.”
