Scripts are for what you think will/might happen and last night the script was, Sanchez will probably tire or struggle by the sixth and we've got Turnbull ready to pitch 3-4 innings. Whether they would have let him finish the game in a save situation, or if he got into trouble himself, who knows. But I do think they want to baby him a little in terms of routine, length and off-days. Like, he was going to pitch last night no matter what even though they could have given those innings to someone lower-leverage. And his next appearance will probably still be on a specific date. Whether he settled into a more traditional role/routine, who knows (if he does he would then have to transition back when called up on to start again, but, good problem to have).
So long as he is effective it will help the bullpen (even as he takes up a spot in it) by just making the other guys available more. If they need a mop-up today Ruiz is fresh and if they need the highest-leverage guys they are all fresh.
