"Most games, the Rockies start their lineup with Charlie Blackmon, D. J. LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado, high-impact players at the plate and in the field. All three are in the sweet spot of their careers: 26 to 30 years old, with three to five years of service time."
The key is building the core on the field, when the Philies were competing from 2008-2012: Utley, Howard, Werth, Burrell were the core players, guys like Rollins and Ruiz were key contributors.
This is why you need patience, because core players usually peak around 26-29, only Hernandez right now fits that profile.
But if Altherr keeps improving, Joseph/Hoskins at 1B (Joseph is a year away due to those concussions), Cozens/Williams in LF, they can have four core bats.
If Franco and Herrera turn it around, even better.
Galvis/Crawford/Canelo and Alfaro/Rupp/Knapp can give you solid supporting players at defensive first positions.
The second key is the second wave, Gruillon, Kingery, Moniak, Pullin et al behind these guys, hitting their peak around 2020 or so.
Safety in numbers, that's why they need to maintain their farm system depth and not make "win now" moves that strip it.
