For a team to advance in the playoffs, it has to be able to hit against good pitching. Phillies haven't been all that good in that regard in recent playoffs. Williams is a very good, not great pitcher. He is the sort of high K, starting pitcher our hitters don't do well against. Getting only 4 hits, no BB, and no runs off him in 8 IP is a lot better than he normally does. The Guardians were up against a great SP and reliever so can be more easily excused for having only one 4 hits and 2 walks against Sanchez but touching the tough Duran for a run.
