So it wasn't a reach base safely streak since he reached base safely and it doesn't count.

Going into St. Louis for a four game series is never easy. Splitting 2-2 for the series is not really that bad. Surprisingly, I felt best about getting wins with Arietta and Nola starting.

Looks like Hoskins is swinging first pitch now. Once he hit the fast ball out, they went to a breaking pitch on the first pitch and Hoskins made outs on it in his last two at bats, including the DP after the Hernandez walk.

Phillies now 26-18 and head home for 3 with the Braves. I'd love to sweep those three but realize the Braves have turned into a pretty good team this season.

I was thinking myself that if you told us on Thursday afternoon before this series started that Arrieta and Nola would both put up rare clunkers and that the bullpen would struggle this series, I think we all would have signed up for a split on the road against a tough opponent.

Of course, there is "glass is half empty" view which can bemoan that Arrieta and Nola games cost us a four game sweep which would have been huge but, hey, they are going to have a bad game here and there.

I was thinking along the same lines. Hoping for a split, and thinking the wins would come from Arrieta and Nola. We got the split, but our best pitchers both lost.

While both Nola and Arrieta were not near their best, neither was totally bad either. With the split in St. Louis, the Phillies finish the road trip 3-2.

Not a good attempt against a soft tosser. even though a saw a few 94's, most of the pitches were that slow curve. phils swinging fastball all day. and another point, i haven't really seen nola pitch much this year but watched pretty much yesterday. does he throw his soft curve as much as he threw it yesterday. really seemed like he was afraid to throw the fastball. maybe not, just what saw. are they committed kingery because of the contract, or can he be sent down? almost 2 months in now and a few hitters are really struggling. i hope they don't get swepted by the braves.

Flaherty is pretty good. Number one pick (end of the round) who was highly ranked as a prospect coming into this season. In the majors at a pretty young age. Not a bad comp for Nola in his development actually.

I don't think the contract will keep them from sending Kingery down. It might only be for a few weeks. He wouldn't be the first hotshot to have to do it (last year Schwarber, Joc Pederson both did). It would make sense, once Crawford is back. Gets him more ABs in the minors, and also there aren't as many 3B or OF starts available as there seemed to be in April (and he almost never plays 2B, of course).
