Hopefully, they have just proven themselves that they can play with the Nats. I thought the last couple of years they were intimidated by them.

I'm afraid all they really proved is that Guthrie's not a major league pitcher. The next four days could be rough. And now, having said that, they'll probably explode. (But also, having said that, I think this team will hit reasonably well, pitching is still the thing.)

Guthrie cannot have slept well last night, but the Phils also scored 7 runs (6 ER) off the Nats' other pitchers, and that included 9 hits, 2 walks, and 2 HRs. They had 2+ games worth of offense in one game (despite Blanton throwing 3 perfect innings!) There's reason to be pleased!

I was there and it was amazing to watch. So great to see clutch hitting and line drives for all. Nola's command was sharp, even in the chilly night conditions.

I sat in LF and the constant chants of "Jayson, Jayson" were funny at first but cheesy later. So many young drunks.

Just have to pray for Nola's elbow.
Because he was bringing it, 93-94 with a good curve.
However, he needs to keep working on the changeup, need that third pitch.

I wish they could save about ten of those runs and apply them to the Sunday game.

Watching the archive version on mlb.tv. Franzke mentioned it was Guthrie's birthday. That was one heck of a present.

Yeah the birthday thing was rough. Seems like general managerial malpractice to me, how many runs/wins will carrying an extra bench player get them? I guess if the goal was to keep their fifth starter on a regular schedule in AAA you accept you might trade a win for that to get more from him later.

Interesting story how this game has impacted Guthrie. I feel for him as a person but glad for the spark it provided our team. We have done fairly well against the Nats this year and in spite of some issues the team is still playing hard and providing some interesting stories.
