Not sure why Topper cannot use a reliever for more than 1 inning, but the pen and offense picked up Painter tonight.

Stayed up and started after the NCAAs. I could definitely see more of the flaws in Painter tonight against a better team. Command just was not there and he was often missing spots by 3-4 inches. Fastball was a little too hittable also though he was trying to keep it above the zone at times.

He is better than Walker but really should probably have a couple more months in AAA to work on his pitch shape and command.

He's also thrown only 19 pitches combined in those three outings.

So, think about these 6-4 Phillies in a different way: They are above the league average in most offensive categories. Their rotation has rarely stumbled. And even on a night when rookie Andrew Painter only lasted four innings, the bullpen shouldered a heavier load with five scoreless. Phillies relievers have retired 30 of the last 32 batters they’ve faced.

I just know they are 3-8 after last night and I've already seen people predict Vitello will be one-year manager. I like the unconventional hire personally, and if you experiment like that you need to let it play out. But then, this is also the team whose last GM gave Kapler his second chance.
