Yeah if you're 11-12 games out before May sometimes you just have to do it to do it. But it's pretty rare it matters ('22 Phillies being an exception).
They could opt for the fire Kevin Long route first, though I wonder if Rob would say, just do what you really want to do. Heck, make Long the manager! Then you get a fresh voice and Mattingly could also handle hitting.
