Cubs outhitting the Phillies, 18-8. Phillies hung close and forced en extra inning, but never felt like the were going to win. Not scoring the ghost runner in the top of the tenth made a Cubs win almost a certainty.

Banks may have passed his expiration date. I didn't realize that Banks still has two arb years to go even though he's 34 years old. He spent eight years in the minors before finally cracking the big leagues in 2022. Relievers can be like that. Good one year, bad the next. We don't have a single dependable lefty in the 'pen at this point.

At least there was some fight today. Have to believe Thomson is in trouble if the Braves series goes poorly. It would not be his fault but the team needs something to kick it into gear. A trade of prospects for a star seems unlikely to happen, so replacing the manager is usually the other alternative.
