Agreed, Benoit still didn't get it done. He either needs to pitch a cleaner inning or he needs to be able to get a strikeout. But then, we've seen plenty of great closers pitch an inning like that (most recently Chapman).
One thing you have to wonder is how much is on the catcher, given the extent to which the Phillies have raised the issue. Does a more experienced catcher do a better job of handling Benoit and calling pitches in that situation? Or was it a perfect game plan (it's not rocket science, after all) and Benoit shook off pitches or didn't make his pitches?
Of course the offense could have won this game too, but they did a nice job coming back and getting ahead.
