We are still alive. Our big boys stepped up and Nola/Ranger were spectacular. Good plan by Rob even though it looked like it might go wrong after Ranger’s first pitch.

My only question this game was why burn Kerkering when you are up by 7? Thought he would have gone with a Mayza, Buehler, Walker or even Robertson (all on super short leashes) for the final two innings. Those guys are on the roster making for a super short bench and I want the best arms available for today.

Can Kerkering or Banks go today? Should they?

It was because he'd already warmed up when it was only 4-1. It definitely puts his availability in question, could lead to an uncomfortable spot for Robertson. Or maybe even Buehler.

You wouldn't have wanted Mayza to face Betts and Hernandez even in an 8-1 game. Maybe not even Walker (with Freeman to boot) though he surely would have had the inning had the lead blown up sooner. Or Robertson might have.

Duran for five or six outs tonight probably. Luzardo would be avaiable. Nola? In 2023 Wheeler pitched two innings in Game 7 on two days rest after throwing 7 IPs. Nola didn't get much work last night but obviously isn't used to that. He and Suarez would both be available for Game 5 of course.

Ed doesn't want to see Strahm again either. I doubt we can win two more games (or many after that) without using only one trusted reliever. It was working for the Dodgers until it wasn't I guess.

Interesting they held Nola to 2 IP, I thought that his last few starts was his best stuff he's had for 2 or more years.
Except where was the 2 seamer and changeup? Has he lost confidence in what were his bread and butter pitches?

That sets up Nola to pitch in relief on Saturday if they win tonight.
Would you use Nola or Robertson to start the 6th/7th inning?

When you only face a lineup once you go with your best pitches. Nola's changeup in particular is mediocre.

The stuff I've read this morning says they really do hope to not use any relievers besides Duran. Get 7 from Sanchez and two from Duran. A lot to ask.

Personally if we're playing I'd let Nola open again on Saturday. Keeps him from actually being a reliever, give the Dodgers a different look and Luzardo is capable of going for a long time.

Hopefully we can hit Glasnow well enough that, as with last night, the game is not resting on the bullpen moves.

IMHO, just the way they planned it, no matter Nola strikes out 6. Phils' plans are set in stone. BUT, Nola looked like he was ready and here's hoping he gets permission to win a game for us next outing. Nola can be really good. Seems like he was pulled early, but the results speak for themselves.

One nouncer was saying the Phils hitters were rusty the first two games from lack of real competition while enjoying the first round bye. Said that real competition can't be duplicated in practice and they looked like a different team yesterday. Added that the Phils were too anxious and fouled off too many hittable pitches the first two games, which they did not yesterday. Someday soon there may be data to prove this but it's credible now. Will be more credible if the Phils hit again today.
