I had the MLB package for a while, which almost always had the road announcers for Phillies home games. Listening to Scully on those was great -- he really prepared, and dug up more nuggets on Phillies players than I heard from the home broadcasts (post-Kalas).

As much as I admire and respect Scully and the others ho preceded him, I never was able to embrace them with the same affection that I have (had) for Harry and Whitey. I guess a large part of that is the "homer" in me. But there was always something about their delivery and inviting presentation that made me feel like not only was the game important, but so was I. I always liked their personalities. Nevertheless, I'm with the majority here that Scully's retirement leaves a void that will likely never be filled. Like pitching on three-days rest, they are a thing of the past.

donaldorc, you are not alone in those thoughts. Vin gets a lot of kudos for his longevity with one team. Rightfully so.

Frantze and LA are a joy to listen to. I live where there is no Comcast cable, and never will be. MLB extra innings package games are blacked out on DirecTV. So it's only games on NBC 10 out of Philly on WLYH in Harrisburg that I get to watch. That amounted to ten games this year. I watch more games on MASN vs the Nats, and those two guys give me a headache.
