Elliott's suspension will likely be reduced to 4 games upon appeal. It allows both the NFL and the Jones' to declare some form of victory - Goodell can argue he was "tough" on this issue after his past disciplinary failures and Jerry can crow that he stood up for his player and got the league to cave. It is all window dressing unfortunately as neither the NFL nor the owner cares about the player, the woman involved or the truth. Like Trump, their main concern is PR and keeping the majority of the people ignorant to the reality the NFL is a fraud and only cares about making as much money as possible.
The Eagles trade I'm mixed on - really liked Matthews as a player and character person; he played hard, fought through injuries, put the team first and mentored younger players. For whatever reason, the Eagles were not going to re-sign him and have chosen to put their chips on Jeffrey, Smith & Agholor as the main 3 of the WR corps. My sense is Smith will be mediocre (as he has been for several years), Agholor will largely continue to flop and Jeffrey will ask for the moon in the off-season. We'll see what happens.
The reasons we needed a CB so badly should be examined too. Roseman has been heavily involved in the CB failures in recent years. He has focused on retread or mediocre vets combined with long shot UDFA or fringe youngsters. He traded away the 2nd rd pick Rowe who found a role in NE. Our pass defense has been horrific during those years and that again forced us to not only make this trade, but draft two CB this year plus sign some other depth. I'm hoping Douglas was critical to this trade and evaluating Darby as a fit for our system. He is young, under contract for 2 more years and has shown some production already. Hopefully, he will pan out here. If not, the case against Roseman as a viable GM continues to grow.
