I would have thought a guy you want to keep on the 53 would be added to the practice squad.

Perhaps the players didn't want to be on the practice squad. Perhaps there is an arrangement between the Eagles and these players going forward, such that they are back in a week or two or three after they either test the offers from other teams or the Eagles evaluate new additions to the practice squad.

The eagles transactions confuse me. Gabe Hall made the roster and was active week one, they waived him to make room for tank and then didn’t sign him to the practice squad when he cleared waivers. Same thing with Eli ricks earlier. I would have thought a guy you want to keep on the 53 would be added to the practice squad.

Another team may have contacted Hall or Ricks wanting to sign them and the players decided to give that a chance rather than stick with the Eagles on the PS. Other teams have realized the last few years that the Eagles have good talent and may not be able to keep it all so they swoop in whenever transactions are made.

The Eagles do seem a bit more active this year. I think Roseman understands he is short in several positions (CB, S, KR/PR, Edge etc.) and has been trying to find better options.

Goedert now is injured according to reports today so TE is another thin position. Calcaterra can catch ok, but he is a horrible blocker as we saw last season and again in Game 1. Roseman will need to replace Goedert next offseason anyway and needs to build better depth as well. I was shocked when he did not draft a TE this year, especially after nickel and diming Goedert and bringing in scrubs to challenge Calcaterra.

I think this is part of Howie's strategy to expand the PS as he has done the last couple of years.

He is continually cutting, adding, cutting, readding players - instead of 16(17) developmental players they end up with 20+ players that are getting developmental practice time throughout the year.

Since Hall cleared waivers, no other team wants to add him to the 53. The Eagles may well have discussed it with him and why go to another team's PS, when he can stick around here where they know him and like him and be added back to the PS in a couple of weeks? Ultimately, his chance of sticking on a roster is far greater here in a couple of weeks than on somebody else's who doesn't know him from Adam's PS.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't resurface in a few weeks. The only risk is that some other team adds him to their 53, and the Eagles have already indicated that they are OK with that by exposing him to waivers (which shows them the risk is not as great as some fans may think).

Hall now back on the PS. Jacob Sykes, who was signed the other day, cut. Expect Sykes to hang around and show up on the PS at some point this year.

OT Cameron Williams was placed on injured reserve.

TE Cameron Latu and S Marcus Epps were temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

With the Williams move the Eagles have a spot on the 53 again.

I didn't enjoy that as much as I should have because I'd already spent three hours watching the Phillies and was annoyed the Cowboys won. Game certainly didn't attract any commentary!

Given all the intangible factors that were favoring the Chiefs, it was really an impressive win (even if it looked shaky at times on the field.) If they don’t give up the quick proximity touchdown to Mahomes in the late 4th quarter it’s a more satisfying win, I think.

Oh I think it was pretty satisfying how they stuffed it to them both before and after that. Though it certainly made it a bit more nerve-wracking.

much better play from the defensive line this week - i'm sure a lot has to do with how much attention Carter gets
Jackson continues to be the weak spot on D
Mukuba needs to work on being a better tackler, he got plowed over by Mahomes
i hope the OC gets better as the year progresses
i think barkely is getting too many touches, 22 carries and 2 passes caught, Dillon 3 carries and Tank didn't play. I believe they need to dial back Barkley's touches so he is better off both in the 4th quarter of the games and 4th quarter of the season, i'm guessing it wouldn't kill us if we threw the ball more but i'm sure that's all anyone talks about on the radio
we need more play action in the offense, especially when the defense knows we are running the ball and stacks the box. I think the offense is at its best when it is balanced & the defense is worried about the threat of Hurts taking off and running with the ball. The defense needs to see all three elements (RB, QB scramble, QB throwing) for people to have space to operate on offense.

oh - and the chiefs completely confused me at the end of the game. trying to take a penalty on 2nd and 1 with 2:48 to go was smart, but then why did they try to stop Hurts on the sneak when they declined the penatly? By taking it down to the two minute warning on the play, the clock stopped and the eagles just needed a first down to win. If they had first down already the eagles would have needed another first down to ice the game. There wouldn't have been much time left but the chiefs could have gotten the ball back. Instead they stopped them on second and lost the game with the conversion on third down. I remember Andy Reid's clock management at the end of games.

Blankenship had to cover the shallow post. According to Fran Duffy, Mukuba should have rotated to one of the crossing receivers since it was a 4 by 1 set, they were in quarters coverage, and there was really nothing for him on the ‘1’ side. That’s what I saw on the behind the offense replay earlier, but it’s not certain (it depends on their rules to some extent). Once the all-22 is out today it should be clearer, although Vic and the Eagles may never be honest about the assignments.

I was like BR and had no choice, but agree the NYG_DAL game was enjoyable -- except that I was rooting for a tie.

One thing I'm opposed to now, though, is the change this year to make "kickers' balls" more "pliable" by letting them condition them for an entire week before gameday. When a 60-65 yd FG is no longer a challenge, we've gone too far especially near the end of the games. Opponent scores, we get the ball at the 35 and have to move the ball 15-17 yards to tie or win a game? It's too lopsided favoring the offense. Go back to one ball used for all plays and all downs. If it's zero outside and the ball carries like a wounded Thanksgiving turkey, be it a pass or kick, fine. It's called game conditions.

That's a good point about how the NFL keeps moving the touchback up and kickers keep getting longer. I suppose you could say that the new kickoff rules force more returns, which might help even that out (and probably why the Eagles traded for a returner).
