Yes, some positions have lesser value, but if you are sitting at 23 I think it good strategy to pick a player at a lesser-value position who has a very high chance of becoming a star and contributing from day 1. If the OTs and Edge guys whom the Eagles rank as likely future stars and contributors in year 1 are gone at 23, I would be more than happy to pick Ioane or whomever we rate as the #2 safety on our board, likely McNeil Warren. I also think Proctor will be gone at 23. I have a hunch that the OT who will be there is Mesidor. Rumors have linked him to Eagles. Given his age and injury history I can only muster a half-hearted okay if he's the pick. Given his age, not sure he's a guy you extend after rookie contract.

I had a thought on preserving our chances in 2026 if the team is committed to a June trade of Brown: could they arrange a trade now for a team's first or second draft pick and have the team draft a guy we pick and then trade him to us for Brown in June?

I agree with you on Mesidor. Age/injury history don't line up with expectations for a 1st round investment. He is probably a guy that could contribute immediately, but I think the Eagles are looking at maximizing return over his career, which means the 2nd contract is in the equation. Even if he is productive, are they going to give a whopping extension to a guy who just turned 30? Not likely.

I am also interested in the post-Stoutland era on the OL, especially as we are likely to see big turnover over the next couple of years. 2028 may only see Mailata and Juergens remaining, and Juergens' injury history is concerning. But Shanahan offenses don't typical invest heavily along the line. Maybe a premier blind-side protector (which we have and probably for the next 5 years), but the rest of the line doesn't carry the burden that ours has lately. It will be interesting to see how that meshes with Howie's philosophy of building through the trenches - at least on one side of the ball.

I’m in the minority that I think A.J. will be here next season. With that said, all of those proposed deals outside of the Raiders one looks pretty appealing. Let’s hope Roseman gets it right whatever he decides.

AJ will be traded after June 1 due to the cap hit, so all ’26 draft picks are off the table. Also, after the trade with the Packers, it really doesn't make sense to get a WR back in the trade. That NFL.com list is fun but not realistic now.

I don't think the scenario where a team "banks" something for a subsequent AJ trade is realistic (or legal?) but Eagles could trade '27 picks for '26 capital if they're confident in what they think they can get for him in June.

Yeah, besides it just being fantasy football to begin with the NFL.com list is also based on the return the Eagles would need to justify the huge penalty of trading him before June 1, but nobody's probably making one of those offers. The rumor is they want a first and third at minimum (or a first and a second) for him, and have not been able to get it (but the fact that there still was a deal they'd take despite the penalty also points towards the fact that they're not trying to keep him).

But they probably either settle for less or keep him.

That is what I think they will do, and it should be easier this year if they want to do that since the ’27 draft is supposed to be special. If you see Howie trading ’27 picks for ’26 picks, it’s almost a dead giveaway that AJ is leaving.

Here is my first real “Eagles Mock” not done on a simulator. This is like the published mocks, trying to take players that fit the Eagles and should be available...

Eagles mock draft #1

1 (23) Trade up using a 2027 4th round pick with Pitttsburgh to 21 and take TE Kenyon Sadiq. Sadiq has made it to pick 23 about 30 % of the time, and to 20 or 21 (trade up range) more than 50% of the time. All Pro upside in a TE room with no bodies past this season. Other possibilities: Kenyon Proctor (too much bust potential for me), Mesidor (old and too often injured with legit talent), Miller and Iheanachor, the other OTs, are not first round talent to me. My runner up was WR KC Concepcion, who I’d be fine with. Cooper and Ioane won’t make it close enough, but if they do I like them.

2 (54) A lot of good TEs will still be on the board here, but that position is deep. A couple of good edges, too. R Mason Thomas might be the right pick here, but I like Dennis-Sutton more, and that’s a reach at 54. A couple of safeties would not be reaches here, but that’s another deep position. I’ll trade down with the Patriots for 63 and 79.

2* (63) Edge Dani Dennis Sutton. Close contenders here were Edge Derrick Moore, and S Kamari Ramsey. OT Caleb Teirnan should go around this pick, and some scouts like him a lot.

3 (68) OT Caleb Tiernan. Long, smart and athletic can play both tackles and also slide inside. Arms are short for his size, but he’s 6’7”, so they are not really that short.

3* (79) WR Zachariah Branch. I like CB Malik Muhammed who should go around here, too, and Dennis-Sutton and Moore if they make it this far down.

3 (98) S Kamari Ramsey. He’s available here about 40% of the time, and he would be a great pick. I like TE Justin Joly, too, and this is where I’d probably have to take him.

4 (114) TE Oscar Delp. An elite blocker and potential high-end receiver, Joly might be available here, too, and he’s got potential. A couple of decent corners (Tacario Davis, Jalen Everette Julian Neal) should still be on the board for folks who don’t want to double TE. Personally, I like Ephesians Prysock just for the awesome name… DT Chris McClellan is tempting, too.

4 (137) CB Ephesians Prysock. Makes it to this pick in 2/3 of the mocks. Allar and Carson Beck should go around here if the Eagles want to feed the factory. TEs Royer and Koziol should still be around if TE is still a need. OG Beau Stephens was my runner-up here—great college lineman with short-ish arms.

5 (178) traded to GB

6 (197) trade for a 2027 5th round pick You could take a QB or a kicker here, but I’ll wait for the UDFAs.

I tried to maximize top 100 players, and not mortgage 2027. Feedback welcome!

Getting both Sadiq and Delp would definitely fortify the TE position which definitely needs that.

Chuck, I know we disagree on some things Eagles and this is definitely one of them. Please shoot me if that ends up being our draft. Although the trade down would be grand larceny investigated by the league it is so slanted towards the Eagles value wise according to trade charts.

No way I’m drafting a TE that isn’t half the player the two TEs drafted in the first were last year with a first round pick. The Eagles taking one in the first round is low probability anyway but picking the first guy in a TE class that’s a huge step down from the previous year doesn’t seem smart use of a 4-year cost controlled roster spot in a position where you can sign a productive veteran for under $10M.

Edge is a critical need for us and coming out with only DDS. And I’m a PSU fan. But he’s about as maxed out as possible now and that’s nowhere near good enough to be an impact guy at this level IMO.

Taking a SECOND TE - non-premium position- and Ia guy who’s has never produced despite good athletic traits is really rough, especially at a pick where you can grab a similar profile (great tester, some elite physical traits) at a premium position like CB or OT.

We are going to critically need WR help also very soon and coming away with only a guy who’s probably a gadget guy when the WR class is deep and filled with NFL level athletes seems like a miss as well.

I think Sadiq is worth the pick. I don't like drafting a second TE, having already stuffed the TE room. Also, Ertz hinting he'd like to return when healthy, which I doubt will be at start of season. My major objection is adding only one OL. We need both an OT and an IOL.

Scouts compare him favorably to Dalton Kincaid and Tyler Warren in recent drafts, and use George kittle as an NFL comp. Freak list athlete with a 4.39 40 and record-setting vertical. For example:

"- Seam-stretcher with elite burst & speed to glide past man coverage
- Dynamic after the catch
- Tenacious run blocker. Can survive inline, but at his best climbing to the 2nd level”

"Kenyon Sadiq is too quick for the big guys, too strong for the little guys, and too smooth for everybody else."

"Listen, explosive receptions from the tight end position, it's actually very rare to see. Most tight ends are check down guys. They don't really break tackles. Sadiq can be a unicorn of a receiver. Think George Kittle style, streaking down the field, knocking safeties off of him, running away from linebackers. This is a 'change your passing game' caliber of prospect here. I don't know where he goes in the first round, but the team who gets him is going to be fired up,”

Eagles don’t draft TEs high, though, so it’s unlikely they take him. Last time they took a first-round TE was Keith Jackson in 1988.

allentown, I think if the Eagles are thinking the way you are they’ll take Beau Stephens with that round 4 (137) pick. He has short arms, but guards can survive with short arms and even become all-pros. His college tape is tremendous. Really, I took Prysock because of the great name, it was really sort of 50:50 between him and Stephens.

Chuck, he’s 6’3” 240 - of course his athletic traits are going to be verify attractive - he’s undersized. His testing numbers are off the charts.

His production numbers are a very different story. YPPR would be the lowest for a TE drafted in the first two rounds since Noah Fant. His yardage share was 14.7%, which is alarmingly low - you can only point to a few outliers that ended up with production that would be the base line minimum for that kind of draft capital.

He’s an H-Back, that may thrive in the right scheme and prove worth the pick for specific teams. The Eagles would not be one of them given their offensive scheme recently, although it would be fair to say that changes are likely to, but no one knows what they are right now unless you’re on the staff.

He’s a classic boom/bust candidate - ultra elite athleticism that hasn’t translated into production on the field yet. I’m not against those type of picks for young guys in general, at say a premium position. Not at TE, which is the position that gives you the least upside of salary cap savings on a rookie contract.

People think “hey, we should grab this ultra talented TE or S in the first round because he’s a great player that teams are passing on and he’s going to make our team better.” Meanwhile they are not thinking about the fact that picks like Jalen Carter and Quinyon Mitchell are each saving the Eagles at least $20M to the cap relative to their production, while an All-Pro TE is going to save about half that. That’s why teams roll the dice on players and “fans” think they are stupid , when actually that’s the best bet in the long run.

Howie IS thinking about that stuff. That’s why he’s good at his job.

He’s a damn good blocker for an H-back. I really think there is like a 3-5% chance they draft him, so you will not have to suffer with him on the offense. Although I still think he’s going to be very good. TEs never really put up numbers at Oregon, and a lot of the film guys say their offense was a mess this season.

I get your argument. But that TE room is going to really empty in 2027...

I also saw a youtube short saying the Eagles were taking offers on Jalen Carter, I sure hope not. I don't care what they could get back, but if there is truth to the rumor, I wonder if they are at an impasse on a contract extension.

I like a lot of what you did in this mock draft. There are people who have strong opinions about taking a low-value position in the first round, and those who think Sadiq is not special. I think it’s an acceptable risk, and Sadiq is very good, so I’m with you.

Rutledge is a brave pick in round 2, and the Eagles have taken IOLs in round two at a high frequency. Not much of an athlete, but a mauler who can move to the second level. Certainly will be at least an average starter. I don’t know if the Eagles will pick a high-floor-low-ceiling guy there, but they might.

I’m not a Genesis Smith fan, but he seems to be high on a lot of big boards.

As a Penn State fan I love K Allen as a college RB, not so much as a pro. Who was the best edge you had available at 98? I think I would have tried to pick and edge or a WR there.

Barber is a great pick at 114, probably a decade in the NFL as a swing tackle.

Overton is another great pick at 137, might be the best run defending edge in the class, has Brandon Graham vibes on the field.

Allar is fine as a late swing at QB.

Is Corleone a member of the famous family? He is a good run stuffer with quick feet that shows some pass-rush potential if he can ever find a set of moves that can get him free early.

As I said, nice draft overall. I’m embarrassed that the PSU RB is my least favorite pick.

Here is my final draft-week, no trade mock. PFN dislikes it, but I’m actually pretty happy with this group. I love the two edges on day 2, they hate those picks. I took Ihaenachor over Proctor and Sadiq this time. I’ve begun to like him more and more as the draft approaches—all-pro ceiling, lots of coachable traits to develop.

Took Dennis-Sutton over R Mason Thomas who is more of a DPR, then R Mason was still there next pick so I doubled up.

Muhammed BPA, too good to pass on.

I was a bit disappointed not to get Delp or Joly at TE, but Raridon has potential and is broadly skilled.

Burks, Bell, and Thomas were solid late picks I think. I really like Jakobe Thomas at safety, I don’t know how PFN has him so low. For example, he’s a top 100 player for Fran and S10.

The thing about Allen is he’s a bruiser back which is kinda what they need and what they hoped the would get out of Dillon last year, a different look from Barkley or Shipley, not looking for another premiere RB like Barkley, looking for a guy to spell him for a few carries a game and convert some first downs as a hard runner.
