While it is not my practice to keep track of the minor league spring training, I thought that since the Phils were away today, I would see what was going on. I got there about 10am and the players were divided into four groups, one on each of the fields of Carpenter Complex. They stood talking for a while and then went into the same stretching and long toss drills that the Phillies do. One of the attendants gave me a roster of who was there and which group he had been assigned to. In all, it looks like about 164 players were in camp. It seems to me as if they were put in groups of commensurate their advancement in the system.
I saw that Mickey Moniak was in the third group which I suspect puts him at Lakewood, but I can’t be sure of that. I suspect that as the games start, there could be much movement back and forth between the groups.
For those of you coming down, remember, once the games start, they will be playing two games a day in the Carpenter Complex against other teams’ minor leaguers. In order to keep the traveling time down, the teams cluster together with the nearest teams. The teams in the Phil’s cluster are the Blue Jays, Pirtes, Yankees, Braves and theTigers. If the Phils are away that day, admission and parking for the minor league games are free. If the Phillies are playing in Spectrum Field, they will charge you $10 parking and admission is free.
I had an appointment and left at 11:00.
