Didn't the Maton thing start in the media? It's just gone from idle comments/speculation to actually getting Joe to discuss it.
I really don't think Haseley is coming back this season. And he'll have to spend a month in AAA if he does so. By then Moniak will probably be ready for that second look (since they'll have to try that before they finally make a trade. Assuming the team still looks good enough to be worth a trade).
Still think you put Maton there if you have to until he cools off if you don't have any better alternatives Just like with Gosselin last year.
It's also still true that they can afford to carry a bad 8 hitter but only if a few of the other bats come around. Would also help if LF and SS weren't also defensive problems.
