2018 Trade Deadline rumors/speculation

Sometimes, you can see lineups posted on Twitter (from each team's Twitter page) before MiLB will post it. I think MiLB posts lineups maybe 10-15 minutes before game time.

If there's any validity to a package of Franco/Haseley/Medina/Gamboa package going to the O's, I would think that is for Machado and another piece (bullpen arm, possibly Britton). I also would not want to part with Haseley as I think upper-level OF might be one of our system's biggest weaknesses. With Haseley just getting to AA and tapping into some power, we might also be selling a little low on him if we deal him now.

Gamboa I don't mind, with Kingery and Crawford in the majors, and a lot of LA infielders on the way, he's expendable.
Haseley I do mind, and while to me Medina is a lot like Kilome, stuff but command? that's an expensive package.
Franco has upside, but Machado will end up at 3B even if he starts at SS and Bohm was our 3rd pick in the draft, so he's also expendable.

The problem is opportunity cost, that's a lot to give and makes it harder to justify any other short-term deals this year.

Just a caution. SF's friend works for the Yankees - not the Orioles. So while her info may be spot on... it also may not. The Yankees wouldn't necessarily know all the details of a deal between the Phillies and the Orioles. If the deal is final, but announcement is withheld pending the ASG, then the Commissioner's Office would be fully in the loop; but I'm not so sure that other organizations would have formal access to that information - and if SF's Yankee employee friend is hearing scuttlebutt from somebody in the Commissioner's Office... well, we have to be careful about the effects of the "telephone game."

If the O's get three top 10 prospects plus Franco and De Los Santos for two-months of MM, Baltimore should throw a parade for Dan Duquette. I love the idea of adding MM, please don't get me wrong, but no wonder outlets are saying the Phillies are the front runner because no one else would pay that much.

Franco has been hitting and playing pretty well and is still just 25. Is he an all star? No. But lets say MM bails in the off season for the Yanks or LA - SS, 3B is filled by Kingerey and Crawford...

If talks are serious for Happ, then is Pivetta, Eflin or VV being discussed in one of these trades?

The rumor is from a former Yankees employee friend of mine who is a friend of an oriole's employee. It is, after all a rumors thread. FWIW, that's why it's not in the media as it's not reported for any personal gain. And as Julio points out, I have no idea if it is true or not as I don't know the source. It's triple hearsay lolol.

Understood SF. Yes, it is correctly put in "rumors" and I appreciate you posting it as always. Just hoping it is wrong, excessive, or as someone pointed out there are other Orioles involved.

The fact that Gamboa is in the lineup implies he is not in a pending trade. If there is one already agreed tonights lineups will clearly show it as I would hope the Phils would be smart enough not to play anyone they intend to trade very, very soon.

Gamboa is a better prospect than Crawford and possibly the best SS in our system.

How is this true in any world? 630 OPS at High A at age 20 where Crawford was a combined 793 OPS with most of that in AA. Hey, I like Gamboa as a prospect, but he is no Crawford or Kingery or probably even Luis Garcia. He makes absolute sense in these deals as an extra piece that we can easily afford to trade because of our depth.

I kind of get the feeling that if Manny blew out a knee in the All Star Game the whole thing would be off. And if the same happened to a prospect that prospect would be switched. Nobody writes that type of risk into these deals.

Yea. Could you imagine:

Manny blows out knee in all star game traded to Phillies - Because of a handshake agreement before the game the Phillies have had to give up 3 top prospects to have Manny Machado sit on their DL for the rest of the season.

On a side note, I really would like to have Machado but feel like the rumored deal is a little steep. That seems like a better deal than they would have gotten for a full year of Machado this last winter.

That does not mean that the teams still don't have a handshake deal. They just know the deal would need to be changed if there were an injury. Manny in the ASG is probably a risk that the Orioles want to take to part on good terms with Manny. And the Phillies may not care between several prospects so they just let them play. At least on the pitching side De Los Santos and Medina would not pitch till after the ASG anyway if they are included.

Yes obviously any catastrophic injury to anyone would change things. But if someone gets HBPed or strains something and they are a valuable piece and can still pass a physical, they can still be in the trade. We will see if anyone really sits. Tomorrow will be easier.

I refuse to believe the PHillies are shipping those 4 players to the O's straight up for Manny. I don't believe it would be even for Manny and Britton. I am not sure I would believe it for those 2 plus additional spending money. At least we should know within 48 hours.

But from all reports Crawford is a very good defensive SS. Gamboa is seen as good, but definitely not better. Most likely scouts still prefer Crawford.

Crawford is a very good SS. They need to give him big-league reps to adjust, just like pretty much every team does with young players.
