While I can't speak for teabag and his comments on Nava last night, I can speak to my reaction when I heard about Nava pulling up lame and then seeing teabag's commment and it wasn't necessarily about Nava per se but about the Phil's seeming buzzards luck when it comes to guys they hope to move getting hurt at inopportune times.
I admit teabag's reaction in print was precisely like mine privately here at home when I read this. And this is precisely why many of us have been advocating moving Neshek as quickly as possible, the chances of him getting hurt in a meaningless game in a meaningless season [except for as to the things they do to improve the club long term] are more likely with every day he stays with the club.
I think this was more what teabag was referring to, not necessarily that the Nava potential injury was that significant other than it once again speaks to the fact that he was a tradeable asset who may not land on the DL at the trading deadline.
And allentown makes a very prescient point about the Braves, one that should somewhat embarrass the Phillies. They both were woebegone teams with two important differences. At one point the Phils had the better prospects and at all points they have had more money to spend. The difference then in my mind?
John Hart is in charge of the rebuild with the Braves and he is aggressive, takes risks and never, ever feels he has enough prospects in his system.Matt Klentak seems much more conservative and really has not yet shown that he is a risk taker or has he shown much of an ability to think outside the box.
I am as happy as anyone at the Phils recent success and do appreciate that several youngsters are performing well. But I will not be fooled into believing they have somehow turned some magical corner, they haven't and every A league youngster they can bring in which allows me to dream that said player may someday be more than Nava or Neshek will ever be in Philadelphia is a good day sports wise for me. Because thats how John Hart thinks and he has shown that he knows how to turn a franchise around...and quickly.
