I agree with flyers19rw. If you are a team that is interested in acquiring Joseph and have just read that the manager insists that he and Hoskins cannot coexist on the same team and you also know the Phils are anxious to bring Hoskins up and play him, why on earth would you not feel as if the Phils will accept a lesser player in order to resolve the problem.
Peter Mac did Klentak no favors here, even if he was just trying to be honest. In my mind, a much better answer would have been to suggest he wants to play the 8 best players and if Joseph/Hoskins end up being two of them, he will play them both. I might indicate that Joseph has taken grounders at 3rd and that Hoskins played some LF in college.
Both of which, by the way, are true. Heck, Joseph came up as a catcher for goodness sakes and while I NEVER want to revisit that situation again, a manager doesn't have to tell opposing teams that Joseph has to be moved soon so Hoskins can come up.
Actually the most mature comments coming from the Phillie clubhouse regarding this situation came from TJ himself. I wish Peter Mac could have said similar things. I am not advocating firing him over this, but to me this just is one more notch which suggests there are ample reasons he was never a major league manager till now.
I listen to him and Bowa and feel I am back in the 1980's.
