MacPhail, without naming names, slammed the old regime,
"When you really want to target the rebuild, the rebuild started in my mind on July 30, 2015. Everything went over the side: (Cole) Hamels, (Jonathan) Papelbon, (Ben) Revere. You moved everything. That's when you stop trying to have a foot in both pieces of the water. That's when the rebuild starts."
A baseball rebuild usually takes five years if you start from rock bottom (as opposed to a "reload," where you have a decent team but trade some veterans to get near ML ready prospects). The trades garnered a lot of high A, AA players who are now in Lehigh and on the team, but the bulk of draft picks and LA signings are in Williamsport (Pickett, Ortiz, Haseley, Stobbe), Lakewood (the pitching staff and Moniak) and Clearwater. One wave will arrive next year, the second wave in around 2020.
Yesterday was a bad day for the rebuild, Hellickson's velocity was down (mostly 89), if he can't sustain 90-91 over an extended period he's a 5th starter at best, and Neshak showed that he is what he is, a journeyman 7th inning RP, Kendrick went on the DL.
On the other hand, Williams hasn't seen overmatched by ML pitching so far.
