I think some patience is in order.
Pivetta and Eflin have ML stuff, they just need time. I think Eflin after an offseason leg regime will be a surprise next year, with healthy knees, stronger legs and filling out that frame (he just turned 23), he hasn't maxed out yet. Both pitchers need to sharpen their stuff, but that's pretty normal, most young pitchers need 2-3 years to settle in. Same with Thompson. I though Velasquez would have been better served spending last season in AAA, his lack of experience shows.
Eickhoff is just "off," he has lost any velocity, but his command is spotty.
Nola is rounding into shape, as long as he's healthy, I have no concerns, especially now that he's ticked up in velocity.
Bring Lively up, at worst, a test of ML hitters helps to focus a young pitcher on why he needs to keep working hard to improve.
The bullpen has completely turned it around, from putrid to excellent, though Gomez is not long for this team.
Knapp is coming around as a hitter, he may well be the future starter, as Alfaro still lacks plate discipline and Rupp seems stuck at .750 OPS or so.
Joseph is making adjustments and it's paying off.
Altherr is for real. Hernandez slumped for a week but like most good hitters, bounced right back.
Galvis is just inconsistent, but if Stairs can reach him, there's hope, when he doesn't swing from the heels he has good bat control.
Franco is frustrating, pitchers have discovered his kryptonite (sliders), can he adjust?
Herrera probably needs to remake his swing, but I suspect the problem is he isn't willing to change, like an alchoholic, he may have to hit rock bottom before he realizes that his exaggerated motion leaves him vulnerable to inside FBs and his lack of discipline is killing him.
I see no reason to bring Quinn up right now, let him work on making better contact in AAA, If he has to replace Herrera, wait until he's ready to succeed.
Same with Williams, he's on a hot streak but still lacks plate discipline, ML pitchers will quickly realize that and never throw a strike to him.
Hoskins is probably ready, but where the heck do you play him? Hard to sit Joseph and his 1.000+ OPS in May!
Cozens may need two AAA seasons, the power is tremendous, the rest of the hit tool needs a lot of refinement to handle ML pitching.
Kingery and Pullin need to be promoted soon, I'm not sure Pullin isn't a better hitter right now than anyone in the Lehigh OF.
I just want the veterans to look good enough to garner something in return, a good AA level RP would be just fine, we need pitching depth.
Come August, I want the kids to start coming up, but no need to rush them.
