Peterson to the Mets.
Kendall to the Dodgers
Really dragging this out unnecessarily. Why do networks think this is the way it has to be?
20 picks away and HS pitchers seem to be the class falling.
Pure and simple greed. Lots and lots of advertising dollars.
I have the sound off, with the video feed on my secondary monitor. Working on other things, ignoring the ads. The only way to go.
Houck just went to the Red Sox.
I'm sure they'll take a 15 minute break either before or after the stupid "Competitive Balance" round. So this pick at 45 won't come till like 11:30. Fantastic.
With a de facto salary cap and draft pool allotments both domestically and internationally, why do we need a Competitive Balance round?
Yeah, probably. I'd argue they're taking five-minute breaks between each and every pick.
Hoping for a HS pitcher at 45. Just don't go off the board.
Carlson, Sauer, Crouse, Danner, Heatherly, Jennings, Enlow, Scherff, Marinen Any of them.
Just over three hours, to get through one round of the draft... and yes, they appear to be taking some kind of "break" now; there's no clock running on the start of CB Round A - and now they've gone back to commercials; they did two minutes of commercials just prior to the Cubs #30 pick; evidently they see their audience as "captive."
I have to self-correct here; they went to commercial - and started CB Round A while they were selling stuff!
... and they're now at one minute between picks (well, one minute plus the Rob Manfred posturing time).
Just like that, they're through Competitive Balance Round A.
Lots of good value HS pitching left. Let's take one
Jennings to the Pirates. First one on Squire's "remaining pitchers" list.
.. and we're on the clock!
Our second round pick is Spencer Howard, RHP from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
I'm sure Squire is disappointed, but with Kilome, Medina and Sanchez, they have three projectable arms in A ball right now. And Dominquez, if he can ever stay healthy. So they added an innings eater type.
Isn't this guy a big reach in the 2nd round?
Haha. Agree. The Phillies system is so good right now, they probably should have passed in the second round.
Austinfan... "if he can ever stay healthy" was the important part of your post. Having lots of projectable arms in A-ball doesn't mean they have "enough." A couple of elbow injuries could decimate that group, at any time.
I have to assume they see something in Howard - something better than his #99 mlb ranking.
We're done for tonight. Third round is tomorrow afternoon.
Was rated #99 on MLB.com and 137 on BA
