I don't have a problem with Kendrick, Saunders and Nava, because the opportunity cost was so low.
I saw Goeddel last year, and it was obvious he was years (plural) away from being a ML starter, if ever.
I liked Sev but they have 3 young RPs at Reading with better stuff, and Garcia has more short-term upside.
Asher would have had value to this team two years ago, but they have 10 ML quality SP prospects between Lehigh and Reading, all of whom have better stuff, except maybe Lively.
Point is, making a few moves to field a competitive team isn't the worst thing in the world if the opportunity cost is so low.
Now if they had exposed Altherr, that would be another story.
And if they just trade one of the seven veterans, Hellickson, Buchholtz, Kendrick, Saunders, Nava, Benoit, Neshak, and get a better player than the trio they exposed (because quality will be more important than quantity by this fall), then they come out ahead. Nor does it hurt the kids to come into a low pressure situation, rather than being forced into the lineup because of lack of depth.
I'm interested in seeing the kid they traded Cordero for, they've moved Sanchez up to Reading, one of those skinny LA pitchers, you wonder if he's filled out and upped his velocity?
