I'm more open to Darvish than I was a month ago simply because Chatwood is already gone and Cobb and Lynn ended up with the QOs. The case to make the Jon Lester move on him is pretty good. But every team that doesn't want to lose a pick is going to be on him now, so you could also make the case that the QO guys might turn out to be the market inefficiency.
Regardless, I just don't think the Phillies' ability to blow him away financially is gonna be enough to beat out other teams even if they had the inclination, and there are also just enough questions about him to not go all-in. He may even re-sign with the Rangers, as he plans to still live there. The Astros are on him. If all else was equal (city, having a chance to win) maybe they could blow him away with a short-term higher AAV offer but in the end I bet he gets his five years.
