Uggggh...you don't trade players like Kingery, you play them. I honestly don't think some phans realize just how good Kingery is...and will be. He is not going to be Chase Utley but he will eventually cause Phillie phans to make comparisons to the two.
And why would you move a guy who might play 150+ games a year for a pitcher represented by Scott Boras and likely to leave in two seasons?
My fear is that this almost obsession like feeling developing that the Phils just have to trade for a pitcher could result in a terrible overpay. There are still lots of pitchers out there and the longer they sit out there the less they will cost..in money or prospects. And truth be told, there really isn't that much difference in Archer, Cobb, Lynn, Cole....or Pivetta, Lively or Eflin.
I was on the Machado train because I have always believed he wasn't going to cost as much in prospects as many believe and because I believe that, save for a Carlton, Bunning, Schilling, Halladay, Lee or Hamels, a pitcher is a pitcher is a pitcher [thus I was not freaked out about moving Sanchez.]
In other words, I still subscribe to the Frank Robinson/Milt Pappas and Lou Brock/Ernie Broglio theory...its almost never good to trade a good hitter for a good pitcher. Better to do it the other way around. And this comes from a guy who loved the Bunning/Demeter deal.
