This is all anecdotal and perhaps is inaccurate but I think I recall in the early months of 2024 the Phillies were winning a lot of series in which the won the first two but couldn't close out the sweep in the finale.

At this time last season, they did not misfire when they had chances to secure series sweeps. So far, that is one difference between the 2025 version and the one that preceded it.

Last year by this time the Phillies did have four series sweeps (Colorado and Chicago at home, San Diego on the road, four with SF at home) . They'd also lost two, (the first two), split two and won three. This year they've only swept Colorado, a series that started in March. They've won six, lost three and split one.

Good to see us taking care of business against the bad teams but really good teams got to beat good teams too, perhaps not to the extent that they beat bad teams but still beat them.

Also, interesting to note how balanced our strength of schedule has been so far, 22 games against .winning teams, 18 games against losing teams. The rest of the schedule for May looks favorable although that always worries me that at some point there is going to be another shoe to drop. July looks very tough (though there are six games against tomato cans in the Angels and White Sox).

Who can really say what the good teams are this early in the season, or ever, especially when teams move over and under .500 over from week-to-week this early? I'd say series wins over LA, AZ, CLE and CHC, plus a split with SF is spectacularly good. Would have been nice to win a game in Queens but that's almost less annoying than the two series losses to ATL and STL, who aren't good teams on paper at the moment. But, that was just a swoon, and right now is a peak.

Coming into the season, we all thought the Braves would be good and they seem to be slowly climbing out of the early hole that they dug for themselves--19-21, 6.5 games behind the Mets, 5 games behind us, RD of just -2. But, at the same time, the Diamondbacks don't look all that hot anymore--21-20, also a -2 RD.

So in terms of over/under .500 they are about to switch places. The stat (as tracked by MLB.com standings page anyway) is always current, right? i.e. record against .500 teams at this moment, not what they were on the day you played them.

And I guess maybe losing a road series to a Cardinals team that is now 22-19 with eight straight wins doesn't look so bad (plus that was the series with that awful first game after the late night in Atlanta). Let's try and push them back towards the other column.

Great win-the-games-you-should sweep, even against a great pitcher today. I am sure we will be annoyed by a loss or two on this road trip especially with travel/jet lag/altitude being a factor for the next few games.

Also, very funny VFK. MLB's official abbreviation for the team currently playing in Sacramento that may or may not move to Las Vegas (can't say for sure!) is ATH.

Really, that is funny. I thought the move to Vegas was locked in, strange they would allow it to be so uncertain. I guess the stadium is the issue, but neither OAK or SAC have any future for them.

I mean, technically they are in SAC for the next three seasons and MLB has approved the move to Vegas but ground has not broken yet. Personally I think they should be the Sacramento A's or the Oakland A's at a distance (only slightly different than the Rays situation) but it seems the MLB style for it is no city at all (in the standings unabbreviated too).

There actually has been talk of them going back to Oakland temporarily (instead of staying in Sacramento) because there's a new mayor there but no way they consider that permanently.
