Believe it or not, Giménez's ball had an expected batting average of .710. Classic bloop, read as such by both runners. Great read by Kiké, great jump, slightly bad baserunning, Game Seven.

It doesn't matter. It was a ball that was hit very shallow in the outfield. There's no way the runner makes it to third base even if it drops.

If it drops a runner who is halfway or one third of the way would easily make it to 3rd. It was a baserunning mistake, but really not an egregious one. As the other post said, it was really a great jump on the ball by Hernandez who has always been a very good instinctual OF even as his range has decreased.

It was still a mistake, certainly, just not bad one. He was definitely going to make it to third. Two runs could have scored, even, if it had gone a little differently, To me the expected batting average was the most interesting part.

First, A runner should never be halfway between the bases on a ball where the outfielder is charging extremely fast and the ball is clearly hanging up. Second, with the speed of the outfielder, it was clear that he was either going to catch it or one-hop it, and it was shallow enough that a runner 1/3 of the way between the bases would have been thrown out at third base. Third, the runner cannot risk getting caught off the base in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out down two runs. Yes, it was a great jump, and you can obviously see it if you're watching the play. Therefore, I have no idea what the runner was even thinking, but whatever he was thinking was wrong.

oh my from reading these comments I thought Hernandez made a shoe string catch....he caught the ball at almost shoulder height, how could it not have been a very bad baserunning decision. Also how can you get doubled off 2nd...either you hold up to make sure the ball is or isn't caught or you decide it isn't getting caught and you are running to 3rd looking to score not hanging out between the bases in my opinion

Of course, even if Barger made it back to second, the Dodgers likely would have won anyway.

The ground rule double was a bit of a killer. Even with men on 2nd and 3rd no outs Toronto's WP was 43.7. It dropped to 28.5 with one out and I"m sure would have been very low with just two outs.

But it was a big deal in that it kept Springer from batting. They would have been better off had Gimenez struck out... except he actually delivered a batted ball that would have been a hit 70% of the time and was never going to be a traditional DP.

Wild stuff. I didn't get to watch much of it but that is pretty wild, 9 hitter goes yard with Ohtani and Will Smith on deck (and Hoffman still got those guys).

Hard to believe Hernandez and Pages didn't collide and blow it on that fly ball.

Bunt seems questionable to me.

Excellent cliffhanger baseball. I'm bummed that the Jays lost, but as baseball drama goes, it was a top notch set of games. The outcome of the series was never assured until the final out.

In tight games like this, every mistake is amplified. For instance, the play at the plate with the bases loaded was a force play; however, the runner decided to slide into home plate. There's no reason to slide into home plate. Everybody knows that when you slide, your momentum slows down. Had the runner just run through home plate, he would have scored and won. The runner should have been aware of the situation, but habit and emotion likely clouded his thinking.

The unfortunate part is that Hoffman had a great Postseason but this is what will be remembered.

That's just the job. He was only so-so all season, with a HR/9 of 2.0, so impressive but also surprising he hadn't allowed one all post-season up to that point. I feel like because he didn't lose the same and because there was so much else involved, it's not quite a Mitch Williams (or even Orion Kerkering) situation. Arguably he was already that for the Phillies in the Mets series last year (blew Game 1, was responsible for three of the four runs on the Estevez grand slam to lose Game 4).
