Giving up on the controllable Seranthony given the way Romano and Ross worked out definitely stings a little. Hoffman doesn't bother me as much. He had a very back-and-forth kind of season, will surely stumble more over the remaining two years of the deal, and I accept that he was basically unsignable (due to both pursuing a starter role and the two huge offers he had before they fell through due to - apparently incorrect? - medicals.
The only thing they could have done differently, especially with the clear hindsight we have now, is waited the market out a little longer instead of snapping up Romano. But that could have left them with no one, or in a bidding war. Or with David Robertson for the whole year.
