But seriously...Nola's problems with men on base, pitching out of the stretch, continue. It's to the point that I wonder if the club might be better off if he just continued to wind up after a leadoff walk or hit. Yeah, the runner would advance, but if it helped him retire the following batters, they could be ahead overall.

Yeah, it's "not done" that way, and this is MLB. But I have to wonder...

Fortunately we only have to worry about Nola if the Phillies have advanced to the NLCS. Or at least, this game pretty much cinches that. Just can't see him getting the nod ahead of Luzardo or Suarez.

The Phillies got to the WS with Falter and Thor making starts, and the Dodgers won the WS last year with Buehler in Game 3 and a bullpen game in Game 4 (though they did not win it). Of course it feels tougher because we don't have Wheeler but what we have is still a lot, and a heavily managed de facto bullpen game for the #4 spot is likely regardless. Today, they might have taken nine perfect outs from Nola and gone from there.

Mets blew a 2-0 lead but then owned the 10th, 5-2 win.

So Phillies with a 12.0:game lead over the Mets with 12 games to play. They are in good shape. Six road games this coming week. I’d love to see two series wins but LA and Arizona are a tough trip.

As long as it isn’t a 6.5 game lead with 12 to play, I’ll be able to sleep well.

Brewers lost. Dodgers won. Still a big road trip, at least in LA.

Today, the '64 Phillies would have made the playoffs as a wild card and beaten two better teams to get to the World Series, just like the '22 Phillies.

When Nola was successful, the 2 seamer and changeup were his key pitches.
It seems he's given up a lot of HRs off that knuckle curve and hitters are sitting on it.

He actually has his velocity back close to his norm, command and pitch mix seems to be the issue now.
Looked good until the 5th, stamina may also be an issue at his age.
May have to treat him like Walker, get 5 good innings and feel satisfied.

2025 is probably just a lost season for Nola. The slow start, the injuries, never could get going. Next season, we'll learn that whether he's a #2-3 starter or #4-5 starter.
