Six stolen bases for the Padres today.
This is a very poorly played game for the Phillies.
Let's hope it is an exception and not a turning point for what has been a fine season so far.
I am distressed by the poor play and mental mistakes.

Final
I think I heard them say that the Padres have won the first game in a series 2 times (including Friday) in 19 series.
Phillies play in San Diego was poor. They earn the series loss and then some.
Time to turn it around and come back strong against Boston.
Quinn hasn't been getting many hits lately in his at bats as well.
We continue to play to the level of our opponents. Could be a problem with eight of our next thirteen against the Mets and Blue Jays. And, the Mets often have their way with us at CBP.
I think playing to the level of opponents is a selective perception thing as well. This series was preceded by a series win over LA (a top team), a road series loss to Cincinnati (a hot team), a split with Boston in Boston (best team in baseball), a four-game sweep of Florida (no playing down to them) and losing to Arizona (another top team) on the road. Go back further than that and we took two of three from this same Padres team and lost a series to Florida. Every series and opponent is different. Baseball swings wildly (no pun intended).
As bad as we feel after this road trip, we should keep in mind that the Phillies are 6-4 so far in August and now return home for 7 games.
No telling what they do over those 7 games, but so far this season, they have rebounded nicely after brief stretches of poor play.
The Cubs did us a small favor tonight. And tomorrow the Braves will even up the games played (at least for a little bit).
That Marlin sweep was something of an outlier in terms of taking care of business against a weaker opponent. We also could only manage a split against a miserable Mets team during the leadup to the All-Star break in a series in which all games were winnable. Take away that Marlin sweep and we would have a very poor record against weak teams going back to the beginning of July. A contending team needs to win most of those games. Missed opportunities.
If we're bad against bad teams and good against good teams that's better than the opposite.
Missed opportunities is a fair description. But the original Big Four (Cesar, Rhys, Odubel and Carlos) have all been slumping. Team now is being carried by Williams, Franco and Cabrera. At least some members of the original Big Four have got to get it going again.
