Actually, I'd rather Klentak just use this offseason to make decisions about who they're going to depend on going forward.
Then make the best trades he can.
With Nola as the anchor, Velasquez and Pivetta flashing top rotation stuff, Elfin with an offseason to build his lower body strength, and Lively, Thompson, Eickhoff, Leiter, Eshelman and Leibrandt competing for the 5th starter spot, I'm reluctant to give up a lot of assets, and a young top of the rotation guy isn't going to be available.
Next year, Anderson in AAA, Kilome at Reading, Sanchez and Medina at Clearwater, not to mention plenty of solid arms like Irvin, Romero, etc.
Good chance they draft a top college pitcher who'll start at Lakewood.
The position that probably needs the biggest upgrade is C, but it's hard to find catchers who are better than 2-3 WAR, and Rupp/Knapp can give you that.
Last year only 8-12 catchers were 2.2 WAR or better, according to Fansgraphs/BR.
Franco's progress will dictate whether they look at 3B.
I think next winter is when Klentak, depending on how the team plays in 2018, makes a big move or two.
Unless of course they play like they have recently for the next 60 games, in which case the schedule gets accelerated.
