I think some people weren't paying attention last year.
Herrera had a mediocre second half as pitchers adjusted to him and has been up and down this year.
Post All star break: .277/.337/.411/.748 but finished strong in September -
Pre All star break: .256/.292/.396/.688
He's been outright bizarre this year, 10 BB in April, .183 BA in May, 5BB/33K in June/July but a OPS > .800
It's not about him regressing, it's about him being the most erratic player I've ever seen!
But he's only 25, an above average defensive CF, and on a cheap long-term contract, so patience is a virtue, I hear.
Franco:
post AllStar break: .238/.286/.351/.637
pre Allstar break: .217/.274/.384/.658
This isn't a player regressing this year, this is a hitter the league figured out and Stairs is trying to salvage.
He's shown some signs of improvement, but has a long way to go.
Doesn't turn 25 until the end of August
Joseph:
His problem is a sizeable platoon split, (2016/2017)
v LH pitching: .912/.873
v RH pitching: .773/.744
On the other hand, take away an awful April .273/.340/.529/.869
If he continues to hit like that the second half, well, even RH 1B with OPS > .850 have real value.
He turns 26 in six days
Galvis
Weird season good April, horrid May, since then red hot .283/.327/.471/.798
Is it sustainable? We'll see. But if he finishes the year with OPS > .750 (.724 the first half) he's a pretty valuable player
It's a young team, players go up and down.
Next year, Kingery and Hoskins are pushing for jobs, Alfaro will probably take one catching spot, and Lehigh will be loaded if Crawford stays, Valentin returns, Walding keeps hitting, Tocci, Tromp, Quinn, Cozens, Pullin in the OF. The talent depth is slowly building up but it takes time.
