There is a lot of stuff over at The Athletic today. Interview with Klentak, Rosenthal on Stanton rumors, pieces on Halladay and the new hitting coach.
Here's Rosenthal:
The Philadelphia Phillies possess more payroll flexibility than any team in the majors, but last summer they were more interested in trading for the Marlins’ Christian Yelich than Stanton. The Phils again could bypass Stanton and add a few reasonably priced players in Yelich’s mold this off-season, then plunge into the great free-agent class of 2018-19—Harper, Machado, Charlie Blackmon, Josh Donaldson, etc.—when the team is closer to contention.
In the Klentak interview, Cooney considers Stanton to be unlikely and basically predicts they won't trade a middle infielder either. Klentak says he's comfortable with the current situation (but that's what you would say regardless).
Another quote:
“We’re more open-minded to more investments,” Klentak said. “But if we’re doing that, we’re going to have to find a player that fits the present and the future.”
