Thanks for the John Mallee links AF! I really like this hire, a young, progressive hitting coach who has worked with 2 young analytically oriented teams who can hit. He also has coached Stanton in his 1st two years at Miami and that might help Stanton to decide to waive his FNTC to come to Philly.
I would like to thank all the teams that showed interest in me on my new journey. I chose the Philadelphia Phillies. Gifted young talent,

It does look like we are looking at Stanton.
Sources: In Giancarlo Stanton trade talks, #Marlins have had preliminary communication with #RedSox, #STLCards, #SFGiants, #Phillies. Talks expected to intensify at GM Meetings next week. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Why does Giancarlo Stanton fit the
#Phillies
? They have $6.35 million committed to players for 2018, per Spotrac. Plenty of capacity for growth in a payroll that routinely surpassed $160M earlier this decade.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of going after Stanton. From a marketing standpoint adding him will gather interest like no other player available. Adding him will also legitimize the team in many eyes and help to sway other players to consider Philly as a good destination. Obviously I like the idea of adding a 7 WAR player to the lineup. We have the payroll room and the talent to make this happen. We could even do a huge trade with the Marlins, taking on Prado and Gordon and sending back Hernandez and Franco for example to get the Marlins pretty much to their payroll goal. Would Stanton waive his FNTC? I think there is a chance if he believes we can be a winner and if we sweeten the deal for him. Maybe restructure the deal by adding some money to make up for the tax differential. Maybe add some money to push back the opt out date on his contract?
I think Middleton is antsy and wants to get back into the winning game. This off-season has some unicorns out there and I think he wants to capture some. Adding Stanton would aid the hunt for Otani and Yusei Kikuchi who both fall into that category.
Well we don't have a "delusional" thread started yet so instead of starting one I just put these thoughts in the off-season one. Speaking of delusional I also thought of a good choice for bench coach, someone who would add to the diversity that we are seeking, Bobby Valentine. Not only is he older and has both played the game and managed before but he has managed a Japanese Championship team.
