Philliesphan.com was founded in February 2001, by Dave Snyder – known here as mvpsoft. This board was established to fill a vacuum that was created by the termination of the message board on the "old" phillies.com – the site that the Phillies operated before all MLB sites were taken over and redone by Major League Baseball Advanced Media, LLC (MLBAM). When the phillies.com board went down, hundreds of regular posters were left in the dark, unable to carry on their normal conversations.

Dave Snyder, with encouragement and assistance from a few others, took action. Dave was the owner of a small software company, MVP Software, Inc., which had web server capability. With technical assistance from his son, Chris (who remains the technical brains behind this site!), Dave created philliesphans.com, as a place where all could gather in his "virtual family room" to talk about the Phillies, and whatever else we found interesting.

Mvpsoft had strong views about what this community should be, and we have tried to capture the essence of those views in our Terms of Service and Posting Guidelines. Dave valued thoughtful discussions, evidence-based arguments, and above all open minds. A man of strong opinions, he encouraged others to share their own opinions, but insisted that claims be backed up with substance.

Dave Snyder passed away suddenly, in an automobile accident, on February 10, 2007. Philliesphans goes on, a testament to his passion and enthusiasm for the Phillies, and for our fan community. No day goes by that we don't remember him, and miss him. No day goes by that we are not grateful for his efforts, for what he created in this space, for all of us.
